Knee Pain
Knee pain can make everyday movement feel like a chore. Stairs get harder, getting up from a chair takes more effort, and that walk or run you love starts to feel out of reach. Maybe it aches after activity, feels stiff in the morning, or just doesn’t feel stable. At Serene Chiropractic in Worcester, MA, we look at your knee and how your hips and feet work with it to help you move with more confidence.
What’s going on?
Your knee sits between your hip and your foot, so it often takes the strain when something above or below isn’t moving well. Common causes of knee pain include overuse, muscle imbalances, joint wear, and injuries to the ligaments or cartilage. Looking at the whole leg, not just the knee, often helps explain why the pain keeps coming back.
Common contributors
Hip & foot mechanics
Weak hip muscles or flat, rolling feet can change how the knee tracks. Our office also makes custom orthotics.
Overuse
Ramping up running, hiking, or training too quickly can irritate the tissues around the knee.
Joint wear
As we age, the cartilage in the knee can wear down, leading to stiffness and achiness, especially after activity.
How can we help?
We assess how your hips, knees, ankles, and feet move together. Care may include gentle adjustments to the knee and surrounding joints, soft tissue work, and exercises to strengthen the muscles that support the knee. If your feet are part of the problem, custom orthotics may help. For some injuries, we may recommend working with our physical therapist or getting imaging first.
When to see a doctor first
Some knee symptoms need medical attention. Get care right away if you have:
-A knee that gave out with a pop and swelled quickly after an injury
-A knee that is locked and won’t straighten
-A hot, red, swollen knee or a fever
-Calf pain, swelling, or warmth in one leg
If you can’t put weight on your leg or your pain isn’t improving, we may recommend imaging or a visit with your primary care doctor first.
Stairs, walks, and workouts shouldn’t be a struggle
