Scoliosis

Living with scoliosis can mean always noticing your body a little more. Maybe one shoulder sits higher, your back gets tired or achy by the end of the day, or certain positions never feel quite comfortable. Whether you were diagnosed as a kid or more recently, you deserve care that fits your spine. At Serene Chiropractic in Worcester, MA, we focus on helping you move and feel better with the spine you have.

What’s going on?

Scoliosis is a sideways curve of the spine, often shaped like a C or an S. Most cases develop during childhood or the teen years without a known cause, though scoliosis can also develop in adults as the spine changes with age. Many people have no pain, while others notice muscle tension, stiffness, fatigue, or back pain, especially around the curve.

Common contributors

Uneven muscle tension

A curve can make the muscles on one side work harder than the other, leading to tightness and fatigue.

Stiffness around the curve

The joints near the curve can become stiff, which may limit movement and add to discomfort.

Daily habits

Sitting for long periods, carrying bags on one side, and low activity can make symptoms more noticeable.

How can we help?

Chiropractic care isn’t a cure for scoliosis, and it won’t straighten a curve on its own. What it can do is help with the stiffness, tension, and discomfort that often come with it. We assess how your spine moves, then use gentle adjustments, soft tissue work, and exercises to improve mobility, balance muscle tension, and build strength. If your curve is significant or changing, we’ll work alongside your orthopedic specialist.

When to see a doctor first

Some changes need a medical evaluation. Check in with your doctor if you notice:

-A curve or shoulder height that is visibly changing
-New numbness, tingling, or weakness in the legs
-Trouble breathing or chest pain
-Loss of bladder or bowel control (call 911)

For children and teens who are still growing, regular monitoring with a pediatrician or orthopedic specialist is important. We’re happy to support that care through pediatric chiropractic.

Scoliosis

Navigating Scoliosis with Chiropractic Insight

Scoliosis, a condition marked by an abnormal curvature of the spine, can be a silent ailment for some and a source of significant discomfort for others. This lateral curve, often appearing in a ‘C’ or ‘S’ shape, can bring about uneven shoulders, a pronounced ribcage, or a noticeable lean to one side.

Beyond the visible manifestations, many with scoliosis grapple with pain, reduced flexibility, and potential respiratory challenges. In the chiropractic realm, scoliosis is viewed as more than just a bend in the spine; it’s an intricate structural imbalance that can impact overall health.

At Serene Chiropractic, we deeply understand the complexities of scoliosis and are committed to providing a tailored approach that addresses both its symptoms and underlying structural nuances, aiming to enhance quality of life and spinal health.
